    The 7-Second Rule

Recruiters spend mere seconds on an initial resume scan. Your document needs to make an immediate impact — or it's over.

    The Top 10 Mistakes

    1. Generic Objective Statements

Replace vague objectives with a powerful Professional Summary that highlights your unique value proposition.

    2. Listing Duties Instead of Achievements

Don't say "Responsible for sales." Say "Increased regional sales by 35% in Q3 2025, exceeding targets by $200K."

    3. Inconsistent Formatting

Mixed fonts, uneven spacing, and inconsistent date formats signal a lack of attention to detail.

    4. Including Irrelevant Experience

Tailor your resume to each application. That summer job from 15 years ago isn't helping.

    5. Typos and Grammar Errors

Even one typo can disqualify you. Always proofread — or better yet, have a professional review it.

    6. Missing Contact Information

Include your phone, email, LinkedIn, and city/state. No full street address needed.

    7. Using an Unprofessional Email

    cooldude99@email.com won't cut it. Use firstname.lastname@email.com.

    8. Too Long or Too Short

One page for early career, two pages for experienced professionals. Never more than two.

    9. No Keywords

Without industry-specific keywords, ATS systems will filter you out automatically.

    10. Poor Visual Hierarchy

Use bold, spacing, and clear sections to guide the reader's eye to your strongest qualifications.
